The Living Room

Welcome to my living room.

Take a seat and make yourself comfortable while I tell you a bit about how I think, and the spaces I've made.

I'm convinced that the spaces we live and work in affect more than what we see or feel — they should be designed holistically, as an investment in our wellbeing, the same way you'd join a gym or choose an organic product.

A home that nurtures your health. A workspace where people are inspired to flourish. A business that draws people in because they feel stimulated, not just accommodated.

A Modern Bohemian Living Room

Own home · One of my first projects

Long before I designed for clients, I designed imaginary houses on paper, dreaming my way out of a small apartment in Bucharest. This living room is where that finally became real — my own space, built from scratch.

The palette is rooted in green, grounded in natural materials — wood, plants, texture — with a botanical wallpaper mural bringing biophilia straight indoors. Warm gold and ochre accents add a lush, boutique-hotel feel without tipping into excess; a few pieces of furniture I restored myself sit alongside the new. Eclectic and modern-bohemian, but filtered rather than maximalist — more is rarely more, in my book.

Daniel's Café & Bistro

Ilkley, UK · Commercial design

Adding unexpected elements to any space can easily create enhanced appeal. For this bistro, I chose playfully bold hues to reflect the young, vibrant personality of the owners.

Yellow is uplifting without being overpowering, and visible from outside through the large windows — it stops passers-by and invites them in. Teal accents cool it off, and a dash of hot pink adds extra oomph. Black metal enhances the colours and balances them against becoming too feminine, against an industrial backdrop. The mood is light and airy, vibrant yet cosy — happy, and a little less guilty about that extra slice of pie with your latte.

A Navy & Copper Kitchen

Full remodel · Budget-conscious

A kitchen remodel can get pricey fast, given the materials and labour involved — but there are smart ways to keep costs in check without the result looking cheap.

The biggest investment here was the Dekton countertop and the copper sink — sourced directly from the manufacturer to skip third-party mark-ups. The cabinets and inserts were hand-painted by the homeowner. Keep the existing layout and appliances where you can, choose a confident colour combination, and the result is a fresh, vibrant kitchen without the full-renovation price tag.

But first, coffee. Here's how I actually work — and what each level of involvement looks like.

Whether you're after a little styling guidance, a room refresh, or a full renovation — whatever the level of my involvement, I take you with me on the journey. My own style leans eclectic and bohemian, but the space isn't about me: I bring in whatever style genuinely fits you and how the space gets used, even when that's a different language than my own.

Before we meet, I'll ask you to put together a visual board of your style and colour preferences. In our first meeting, I get to know you, discuss budget, and take photos and measurements — you'll leave with practical tips you can implement yourself, immediately. From there, I build a mood board and proposal for colour palette, materials, furniture, and accessories: your styling plan.

Before I design anything, I try to feel a space — to understand the energy the people using it bring inside with them. Every layout considers function first, but never forgets what the space is for: should it inspire creativity, invite relaxation, spark conversation? Where it genuinely fits, I draw on biophilia, colour psychology, aromatherapy, and environmental psychology — not as a formula I apply everywhere, but as tools I keep in the back of my mind.

The Atelier

Product design & upcycling.

Next to interior design, I try my hand at a range of mediums: upcycling old furniture and building small pieces from scratch, wood burning, macramé, and small clay accessories. I get genuinely excited at the sight of old, handmade pieces that carry the tale of their maker and past owners — and whether I'm restoring something forgotten or building something new, I try to give it a story worth continuing in a modern interior.

The Paris Dresser

Upcycled cabinet · Custom commission

An old kitchen cabinet, transformed into shoe storage for the hallway. The hand-drawn Paris theme was inspired by the customer's favourite travel destination — they wanted a custom-made piece that matched their grey-and-yellow hallway, and their playful personality.

Grandma's Doilies

Heirloom piece · My own home

I grew up watching my grandmother crochet doilies like these — hours of work, fitted in around her day job as a seamstress. I used to help her prepare the thread and finish the edges, and I was convinced her hands were magic.

I have three of her doilies. I wanted them somewhere in the house as a constant reminder of her, so I turned them into a dreamcatcher — it now hangs in my bedroom, the first and last thing I see each day. The perfect place for her.

The African Bench

Built from scratch · My own home

Built entirely from scratch: an MDF base, foam padding, turned wooden legs, all assembled and upholstered by hand. The fabric is a patchwork print with African influences, bought on a trip to South Africa — now stretched over a piece that started as nothing more than a board and a sketch.

It lives as a footstool in our bohemian living room, and you'll actually spot it in a few of the Living Room photos above. Exactly the kind of piece I love: something ordinary, made extraordinary, with a story stitched right into it.

Grandmother's Chairs, Reupholstered

Restoration · For a friend

These chairs belonged to a friend's grandmother — full of fond memories, but the old tapestry fabric no longer fit her home, and the wood needed real attention: cracked joints, tired legs, a finish that had lost its shine.

I repaired the legs, closed the cracks in the wood, and relacquered the frames, then reupholstered both chairs in a bold navy-and-gold stripe — new enough to feel like hers, without losing what made them her grandmother's in the first place.

My Story

Mood board for the Modern Bohemian living room project

Hi, I'm Raluca — this is my happy place.

Having grown up in Bucharest, Romania, in a small apartment in a communist block of flats, I always longed for space and privacy. I used to imagine new designs for my tiny home, or dream up entirely imaginary ones — it was my way of freeing myself from those grey concrete walls. That's where my passion for design first took shape.

My joy

I'm an interior designer, artist, and self-taught DIY-er. I find as much joy restoring a forgotten piece of furniture as I do designing a full room from scratch — different scales of the same instinct.

My inspiration

Because of my Romanian roots, I'm also a promoter of Romanian traditional arts and crafts. In Romania, you can still find talented craftsmen who've stayed true to the old techniques and traditional folk motifs — rich in colour, and carrying a piece of Romanian history with them.
